It’s fair to say that 2020 hasn’t been a great year for everyone, so why not use the spare time we have at the end of the year to create a better and more stylish version of our homes, ready for lots of entertaining and parties in 2021 (fingers crossed). Here’s some top tips on the things to consider adding to your home and how to make the most of the items you already have in your home.
Replace old flooring with new flooring
The way a floor looks can really have an impact on the way a whole home’s interior looks. Some people have different styles and materials of floor in each room and others prefer to have one uniform style of floor that flows through the whole house. No matter your preference, Underfoot Flooring has you covered, as they have a wide range of styles and materials of flooring which suit almost every style of home interior.
Change your colour schemes
Now is the perfect time to completely change the colour scheme in your home. As we are living under restrictions, most of us may find we have a lot of spare time on our hands, so why not use this time to do painting and decorating. If you are looking to decorate a home which doesn’t need to be decorated often, stick with a neutral colour palette as of these colours never go out of style.
However, if neutrals seemed a bit too boring for you, take some inspiration from interior design magazines, social media pages and blogs. Or even binge watch Netflix’s Selling Sunset, for some rather grand LA-luxury interior design ideas.
If you think this is all a great idea don’t have the budget to buy new rolls of wallpaper or going out by buying expensive paint. Use the masking tape trick, this is where you simply create a pattern on the wall, by placing masking tape on the wall to create a funky pattern. And Then all you need to do is paint inside the shapes created by the masking tape, which then creates a wall paper effect wall art.
Try upcycling
Upcycling is a great idea for those who want to make the most of the furniture that they already have. If you have a piece of furniture that’s looking a bit worn out, a simple going over with paint can help to completely rejuvenate the look of the furniture. The most commonly used example of upcycling is where people collect old wooden crates and use them to build a wooden bar.
Create a home office
If you, like many people have been asked to work from home for the majority of this year. You may want to create a comfortable home office, in case this continues up until the middle of next year. You can easily create a functional home office by owning a small desk and a comfy desk chair. You can take it further by adding a high speed computer and calendar to ensure that you are working efficiently from home.
Make sure you have a spare room for guests to sleep in
Although it isn’t possible for every household to have a spare room, if you are lucky enough to have a room spare in your home, why not turn it into a guest room? Once the restrictions have been lifted and we are allowed to make over-night stays, a guest room will come in handy for having friends or relatives stay.
